 Annual maze helps raise money for Connecticut Children’s Medical Center

350,000 Blooming Sunflowers are crafted into a train-themed maze that will honor Lyman Orchards’ 275th anniversary. $1 from every admission supports the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center Pediatric Care Unit.

MIDDLEFIELD, Conn. (July 26, 2016)Lyman Orchards invites you to hop on board this first-class journey through history by getting lost in Lyman Orchards’ Train-Themed Sunflower Maze. The 2016 maze, which is dedicated to the 275th anniversary of Lyman Orchards, is set to open on Wednesday, July 27. Navigating the maze takes you and your family on a pathway to outdoor fun and helps support the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center Pediatric Care Unit.

This year’s maze design is a continuation of the orchards’ year-long 275th anniversary celebration by honoring David Lyman II and the Airline Railroad. Take a trip back to 1860, when David Lyman II started construction on the railroad that forged a new pathway from New York to Boston. Filled with surprising twists and turns, this train-themed maze is an amazing ride for all.

Fun facts about the Lyman Orchards sunflower maze:
•  More than 350,000 red and yellow sunflowers make up this year’s maze.
•  The maze is approximately 3 acres in size.
•  The average time to make it through the maze is about 30 minutes.
•  The sunflower maze has raised over $67,700 for Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.
•  It is Connecticut’s Original Sunflower Maze, now in its 10th year of operation.

The maze is scheduled to officially run from July 30th through August 28th, but eager explorers can quell their curiosity with an early opening beginning Wednesday, July 27th. The maze will be open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for ages 4 – 12 and free for children under 3 years.
