Press Release

2016 American Honey Queen Kim Kester to Visit Lyman Orchards On June 5 to Raise Awareness of the $19 Billion Beekeeping Industry

Visit will feature meet and greets, hive observation, fun activities for children and more

The average American may be unaware of the impact the beekeeping industry has on our country. Nearly one-third of the average diet is impacted by the honeybee.  Pollination from honeybees provides a large majority of the fruits, vegetables, nuts and legumes we consume. This production has been the catalyst as beekeeping has developed into a $19 billion per year industry and has had an indelible influence on United States agriculture.

2016 American Honey Queen Kim Kester will be visiting Lyman Orchards on Sunday, June 5, 2016. The American Honey Queen serves as the spokesperson on behalf of the American Beekeeping Federation (ABF) to promote the importance of the honey industry nationwide. She will be spreading awareness on how honeybees are the connection between plants and our plates and how honey can sweeten your entire home.

Kester’s visit will be filled with opportunities to meet the honey queen and partake in a variety of family-friendly demonstrations and activities.

Admission is free and activities will include:

  • Story time and beeswax candle making – 10 a.m.
  • Hive observation and question and answer session – 11 a.m.
  • Honey Blondies (Kester’s recipe) baking demonstration – 1 p.m.
  • Meet and greet – 1:30 p.m.

* Schedule subject to change

After the meet and greet, guests are invited to stay and view a bee glove demonstration at 2:30 p.m.
