The History of the Lyman Homestead
David Lyman II, just before 1860, enlarged the original family homestead built by his grandfather, David, in 1785. He moved the original building (by oxen) to another Middlefield site and commissioned an architect, Rufus Russell of New Haven, to create the main block of the house in 1863.
A long-time symbol of the family's heritage, the Homestead has been home to generations of the Lyman Family. In 2000, the Homestead was made available for hosting special events.
In addition to providing rental opportunities for special events, the Homestead also hosts several popular Lyman events such as Brunch with Santa and Mother's Day Brunch
A well known landmark in Middlesex County, the Homestead is included in the National Registry of Historic Places.
